Importance of Therapy

My life has been for the most part an adventure, but like most adventure there are hardships and challenges so it's inevitable that you take some damage and trauma along the way. Sometimes you need help in dealing with this issues and that's where the experts come in.

I have been in therapy for a long time but thankfully now is more for catch and monitoring rather than the more serious stuff.

Here are some things I have learned during my therapy sessions

  • You have to do research on your therapist and it's okay to change if you're not comfortable with him/her. I had a couple of therapists over the years, some were good and others not so much. They have their own areas of expertise and there's nothing with finding them out. Don't also feel guilty if you need to change therapist for variety of reason. The priority is your mental health.
  • Be honest during therapy. I cannot emphasize this enough. Your therapist is not a mind reader if you are not honest or open to your issues he/she cannot help you. I know it can be difficult but you have trust the process
  • Do your homework. You will only get meet your therapist once in awhile and you're lucky if that is even weekly. So if your doctor says to regularly take your meds, do it. If they ask you to write a journal. Those sessions can only do so much, we need to put in the work for us to get better.
Hope these things help you in your journey to a better mental health.
